DEATH OF A GLAGOW ARTIST

Mr Alexander Wellwood Rattray, A.R.S.A., died on Thursday at his residence, 7 Berkeley Terrace, Glasgow. He was a son of the Rev. Alexander Rattray Parkhead, and was born at St Andrews on July 24, 1849. He was educated at the Glasgow High School, Glasgow Academy, and the University. After emerging from the Glasgow School of Art he spent some time in Paris, where he worked under the well-knwo landscapists, D'Amoye and D'Aubigny. About the year 1880 Mr Rattray settled in Glasgow, and has followed the profession of a landscape painter since that time. He was an Associate of the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Society of Water Colours. Mr Rattray was at his best, as a painter of the sea associated with landscape, but during recent years his work greatly deteriorated, and he lived a blighted life.
